Welcome to Blogger: A Wordpress Rant.

Lesson numero uno: Do your research before committing to a blog host.

Yeah, sure.. that sounds boring, right? Well, it sounds boring to me. I mean, I figured most blogs would be the same. A couple "widgets" here, a couple there, some links, settings, options.. might be a lot for a blog-newbie to take in, but I figured I could manage.

What I didn't bank on was how different blog hosts could be. Take wordpress, for instance. I have a blog over there (actually, it's unforuntely my main blog for my business, Brilliance Found), so I know the inner workings of it rather well. I went with wordpress because I naively believed the random rumourings that it was a better blog for business-related things. And, as anyone who knows me knows, I have no idea about anything business-related.

So there's me, happily signing up for wordpress because I figured, hey, it's been recommended. And blogger is more for casual blogging, right? Well. Cue two months of editing & making changes & stillll not being satisfied with the overall look. Not to mention that wordpress is not compatible with a great chunk of html, which is important because a lot of my stuff is the un-wordpressable html. Sucks.

And then I come here, in attempt to start a new blog for my tutorials & reviews, so that they don't get mixed in with my business-related postings (and because really, I can't keep away from my rambling tendencies), and I somehow manage to get this bitch set up in a mere 3 hours. Formatted & everything. Oh, and did I mention blogger takes my html? I'm basically in love.

So now, here I am with my dilemma. I am using two blog hosts for basically the same purposes. One sucks, one doesn't. And of course, the one that sucks is the one that I have months worth of postings & link ups. And of course, the one that sucks has a better name. Wordpress sounds a hell of a lot classier than Blogger, doesn't it? Blogger makes me think of some chodey teenager. Ahhh well. I guess they were right when they said starting a business is a bit of bullshit.

(To add insult to injury, I paid something like $15 at wordpress hoping that I'd be able to customize my blog a little better. Over there, they charge for the options we get for free here at blogger. Wordpress, I hate you so.)

So, the cliffs note version (included only because there's a list button staring riiiight at me):

WORDPRESS CONS:
  • You can't format your page worth shit.
  • Charges $15 for the pipe dream that you, yes you, MIGHT be able to format your page worth shit.
  • Doesn't take a great deal of html
  • Waste of time, etc.
WORDPRESS PROS:
  • Well, the name sound pretty dope.
  • And apparently, someone out there thinks it's good for business.
